Building Is Expensive

First off, I can’t believe we pulled off consistency for a whole year. That’s really exciting. I never really thought we would stick around this long but yay, God did! Anyway, that’s not the tea for today, so if you’re ready grab your AirPods and put on Fireboy DML’s Everyday. Let’s dive in.

I’ve always been one that is community-driven. I love a community that is after my growth and that’s why almost every part of my career has been focused on doing just that. From my Medium reads, to LinkedIn posts, Instagram reels, and my Newsletter. I love being able to play a part in someone’s growth.

While I was relatively new to the tech space and still finding my feet I remember having small data support plans where I’d help new techies get data stipends (from my income), sponsor 4 people or more to tech events which was heavily dependent on how much I could save and help tons with Coursera aid applications or any scholarship scheme I was aware of. It has truly been a whole lot but I love it.

Reflecting now, I want to say building something sustainable is expensive. If you find a community that actively invests in your growth please be grateful, time and resources have gone into every initiative that you see. But don’t take this as me lamenting, I am not. I’m rather helping you see the part that isn’t out there so when you wonder how builders get access or ‘grace’ just know they have invested their time and resources heavily.

Now imagine doing all that but your community isn’t as interested in pushing the narrative. That hurts a whole bunch. There’s really no point in being selfish with resources. It doesn’t take one thing from you. It’s a form of greed if you didn’t know. If you want to be a part of a community, then you need to play your part. It’s commYOUnity. You are needed too.

With that being said, I’d love to have a small meetup for every entry-level jobseeker. But I’m not so sure which corporates will be open to collaborating. If you have suggestions or direct referrals, you could leave a comment or send me an email ivyelebesunu@gmail.com . It’ll be an in-person event with trainings, a career fair, and networking sessions. For both my techies and non-techies.

Till we meet again, talk soon!
