Tiny Bits
Have you ever been so overwhelmed by the amount of work required for your growth? I mean you know what you want but how to get there seems so overwhelming. Well, you’re not alone. Today, I’ll be using my journey in Marketing and Branding as a case study. I think this will be more resourceful to anyone looking at switching to the field of MarCom. If not, just key into the basic principles shared.
Hi, Techie! We have to admit, January seemed super long! But we’re here now, ready to have our not so little chit chat. Let’s get started, shall we? Towards the end of January, I was a girl with a plan but I felt stuck because it seemed like a whole lot. And uncertainty started to creep in, the what ifs and self-doubt.
When I first decided to take building my brand seriously, I had no idea what I was doing. I was figuring things out and I was waiting for the “perfect moment” to make the “perfect post”. And that never came. You only find out when you try. I imitated people because I was still discovering what works best for me and that’s fine. You don’t need to find yourself at the beginning, find YOU in the process.
The first principle I learned is understanding you. You need to be true to thyself as Mrs Ibukun Awosika would say. Whatever you do, don’t lie to yourself. Do you need to make a career switch because you don’t see yourself living life in your current role? My first solid interaction with tech was through the world of data but in my first two years, I wasn’t getting fulfillment from it. Marketing excites me and it perfectly blends the critical thinking that made data attractive to me. So, I switched to blending both Marketing and Data because I was true to myself
Embracing failure is a huge game changer. See them as chances to do even better than before. It’s a hard pill to swallow but you can chew then swallow. Makes things less hard. I didn’t get my first viral post or tweet on my first ever post but we keep pushing till we get it. It’s the sauce that makes things kick a little harder.
Always remember that branded rubbish is still rubbish. You can’t build a brand when you have nothing to offer. Learn to add value to yourself. I always dedicate a book to every new month. Every month already has a predetermined target. When you give yourself assignments, it defines what you set out to achieve, and you warm up to take action. You can’t give what you don’t have.
The moment I started having fun with my work, I got better at it. I don’t write because I feel like it, I write because it helps me create my reality and it brings peace. The moment I feel stuck, I’m definitely finding a cute love series to watch (love excites me). Find what gets you giggly and bring that energy to your work. You’ll get better results.
I don’t have every single thing figured out and yes, I will definitely make mistakes but hey that’s what makes life memorable so why not enjoy it? Are you with me? So, let’s start to do things afraid, and rough and we’ll figure out the rest later. We shall smoothen the edges later but right now, we will start NOW.
